Record Path is a concept borrowed from TCB.
Just a recap, with TEACUP, if you have /toy/bear.htm and /toy/balloon.htm, /tcb/toy will list both. Following the same idea, if you have two records in the database with RecordPath being /toy/bear.htm and /toy/balloon.htm respectively, /drb/toy will show these two records (through "view many").
The Record Path effectively assigns a Virtual Page to the data record. When you add a new record (through "edit many"), the Record Path would default to the current path, hence the Default:RecordPath={recPath} setting in scheme%dbo&.
The same TCB concept of &After and &Before, and the <THEAD>, <TBODY> and <TFOOT> all apply to DRB in the same way.
As with TCB, you don't need to enter all DRB layouts. Those without a layout will inherit its parent's.
